Purrrniture on the media:

Minneapolis Star Tribune - March 5, 2008 ("Specialty business for cat lovers") - By John
Ewoldt
Scratching posts for your cat start to fray pretty quickly if used regularly. Although posts aren't too
expensive ($15 to $25 at Petco), it's wasteful to discard them after the rope or material is frayed.
One local company, Purrrniture, (2242 University Av. W., 651-642-1946 or www.purrrniture.com) will
replace the rope or carpet for about the same price as a cheap scratching post. It's not a bargain,
but it's not adding to the waste stream either. Other services include custom cat condo designs and
in-home re-covering services. If your cat dismisses the new condo with a yawn, Purrrniture offers a
30-day "catisfaction guarantee." For more bargains on pet supplies, check Dollars & Sense on
Sunday.

Minneapolis Star Tribune - Oct. 6, 2002 - ("Animal Instincts") - by Dick Youngblood.
"When Darryl Michaelson went looking for furniture for his two cats, he found two problems: poor
quality and steep prices. So he scrounged some wooden pallets, added a stack of large electrical
cable spools and started making his own furniture covered with inexpensive carpet scraps."

St. Paul Pioneer Press - July 21, 2002 - ("Finding Some Scratch") - by David Hanners.
"Michaelson's creations resemble sturdy Tinkertoy structures: 4-by-4 boards stretch into the air,
topped with circular platforms. Along the way, there may be large tubes for the cat to lounge in, or
circular boxes with holes in them that provide hiding places."

"In 11 years, Michaelson has transformed Custom Cat Purrrniture from a hobby to a full-time
business. He designs and builds carpet-covered perches for cats, and sells them from his new
showroom in the Dow Building at 2242 University Ave. W. in St. Paul, or from select pet stores."

"Cats seem to love his condos, which resemble a carpeted forest of scratching posts, platforms and
tubes."

Angie's List Twin Cities - Dec. 2001 - by Andrea Godbout
"What makes this cat furniture unique is a combination of design and materials Michaelson uses to
build pieces that cats of any age or physical ability can use comfortably. He points out the system of
"steps" on each of his pieces that allow cats to go up or down at their own pace. "As your cats
ecstatically claw their way through their Custom Cat Purrrniture, you may find that it needs to be
patched. Darryl will repair it, or take it as a trade-in for a discount on a new unit. Trade-in pieces
are donated to local pet shelters. And when an adopted cat owner buys a tower from Darryl, he will
donate a percentage of the price back to the shelter."

St. Paul Pioneer Press - Aug. 20, 1994 - ("Cat Man") - by Susan M. Barbier.
"This stuff has built-in curiosity factors and explore areas for them," says Michaelson. "Put it in the
room that you frequent, the living room or the TV room. The cat is part of the family, and he isn't
going to go in the back bedroom to scratch on his post when there you sit on his couch," he says.
"Put the furniture in front of a window. Cats love to look out the window. And give him positive
affirmation when he's interested in it."

"Venture North" TV Show (Duluth 8 WDSETH) - Feb. 19, 1994
"The company utilizes "used" electrical reels, paper cores, lumber and carpet to create unique cat
furniture."
